Following Jesus together
Who We Are
Following Jesus together in faith and mission.
We are families, friends and neighbors from the Bronx and its surrounding areas following Jesus together. We gather together to sing songs, pray together, listen to scripture in community, preaching and teaching, care for one another, love our neighbors and be a witness of Jesus Christ in our everyday lives.
We believe that no matter how broken or imperfect we may feel, God has placed something good in our hearts because we are created in the image of God. So, we come not only “just as we are,” but also in our brokenness, knowing that we have something to share with one another.
As we follow Jesus together, we seek to be a church family formed by Christ's healing, and following Him in faith and mission.
Vision + Mission
A one-mile mission with a citywide heart.
Vision
Serving the Bronx with the love of God by strengthening families, loving neighbors, and cultivating lasting friendships.
Our vision did not emerge from a leadership retreat or a strategy session behind closed doors. It was formed in the community—by listening to the stories, struggles, hopes, and testimonies of our neighbors.
Through communal and collaborative discernment, we began to understand what God was already doing among us and how we could faithfully join Him.
Mission
To go and make disciples within a one-mile radius of our church.
Our mission is rooted in presence, listening, and sharing—walking the same streets, praying together, studying Scripture, sharing stories, and building friendships right here in our neighborhood.
Our mission is not simply about gathering people, but about walking alongside one another— growing in faith, hope, and love as neighbors and friends.
Our Table
The table is the central metaphor for all that we do. It represents belonging, discipleship, and shared life together.
The Communion Table Christ invites us to His table. Here, we remember His love, grace, and saving work. The Communion Table embodies our belonging and identity in Christ. At this table, we come together as one family in Christ.
The Fellowship Table After each worship service, we gather around tables to share a meal. We sit down, break bread, and share our dreams, struggles, and aspirations - we learn what it means to follow Jesus in our everyday life. Around these tables, connections are formed, and friendships flourish.
The Outreach Table Unlike the other tables, this one is set outside. Through our food pantry and acts of service, we extend hospitality to our neighbors and seek the common good of our community. This table embodies the “go” of the great commission, bringing hope and sharing God’s love.
Family Church Story
A place to call home in the Bronx.
“How do you define a community?” she asked me during one of our Saturday morning outreach meetings. Knowing she was a retired teacher, I sensed she was asking something deeper. So I turned the question back to her: “How would you define community?”
She paused and said, “You people are different. You’re not like other places. There’s something different about this place. I’m curious to learn more about what it is.”
The story of our church didn’t begin with a strategy or a launch plan. It began with curiosity and wonder—paying attention to what God was already doing in our neighborhood. Christ has taken residence in this neighborhood, and we want to join Him there.
Having been raised in the Bronx, I always carried a desire to start a church there. Still, I wasn’t sure if I was ever truly ready. Then COVID-19 hit, and my ZIP code in the Bronx became one of the hardest hit in the borough. At the same time, I saw the deep disparities in how the Bronx community was being served. In that season, I felt the Spirit compelling me to begin something in the Bronx. Even in the midst of despair, God was at work—and as a family, we wanted to be part of what He was doing.
So we began with prayer. We walked the streets of our neighborhood, asking God to guide us. We had no budget, no launch team, and no worship team. But through those prayer walks, we sensed we were being led to start near Pelham Bay Park, by the 6 train.
On the eve of Mother’s Day in May 2022, we purchased more than 70 roses. My wife and our three daughters tied ribbons to each one, along with a small card sharing information about our church. Then we stood on the corner of Buhre Avenue by the 6 train station and gave the roses away—free—to anyone who wanted to bless their mom.
Today, we are worshiping near Middletown Road by the 6 train, a few blocks from where we started. By listening to our neighbors and caring for one another, we are growing organically. Like leaven in dough, we are slowly becoming part of the fabric of the neighborhood. Families inviting their loved ones, friends inviting friends, and people who are simply looking for a place to belong find a home among us on this pilgrim journey.
Core Values
This is what we want to be known as.
These are our core values, the way we want to live together. Just like the Bronx is alive with people, food, music, and culture — our church reflects the rhythm of the city while being rooted in the unchanging Word of God.
Parks & Recreation - Rest
In the midst of our busy life, we need to slow down. We believe church is a place of spiritual rest - where weary souls find renewal in Christ.
Matthew 11:28
Psalm 46:10
The Sidewalk - Everyday Faithfulness
Life happens on the sidewalks - conversations, encounters, daily steps. We believe discipleship is not just Sunday worship; it's daily obedience in ordinary life.
Galatians 5:16
1 Corinthians 10:31
The Playground - Formation
Playgrounds are where children grow, learn, develop strength, and gathering place for families. We believe spiritual growth is intentional - forming disciples through teaching, practice, and encouragement.
Proverbs 22:6
Ephesians 4:13
The Front Stoop - Hospitality
In the Bronx, life happens on the stoop - neighbors gather, stories are shared, and everyone belongs. We believe the Church should be a place where people feel seen, welcomed, and included. Hospitality is not just a nice gesture; it's creating space for real connection and care.
Romans 12:13
Romans 15:7
The Streetlights - Guidance
When the sun sets, the streets still shine. Streetlights illuminate the path ahead. We believe God's Word guides our steps in a world that can feel uncertain.
Psalm 119:105
Proverbs 3:5-6
